Client Case Study: Manufacturing

Kelso Building Trade Centre: an IT refresh for a Western Sydney manufacturer

From shared logins and USB sticks to one secure, managed setup for the whole team

Kelso Building Trade Centre manufactures and supplies doors and building products in Western Sydney. Their computers were running different versions of Windows, staff shared email accounts, and files moved between people on USB sticks.

Digitek IT carried out a full IT refresh and now looks after their IT with ongoing managed IT support.

The Challenge

An IT setup that had grown without a plan

When we reviewed Kelso Building Trade Centre’s computers, we found nine machines running four different setups. Every computer was signed in with a generic personal Microsoft account rather than a business account, so there was no central control over who could access what.

Staff did not have their own email addresses and used shared mailboxes instead. There was no shared place for documents, so files were passed around on USB drives and saved to different people’s personal OneDrive accounts. Most communication happened in person, because there was no business email or chat set up for each person.

What We Did

A full IT refresh, done in stages

We replaced what needed replacing, put every computer and staff member on a proper business setup, and secured it from end to end.

New computers where they were needed

We supplied and set up new computers to replace the five machines that could not run Windows 11, and upgraded the three Windows 11 Home computers to Windows 11 Pro. Every computer is now managed by Digitek, so updates, security settings and software are controlled centrally.

Security across every device and user

We set up remote monitoring, business-grade device security, DNS filtering to block harmful websites, and email security for every computer and every staff member. This replaced Norton.

Microsoft 365 for every staff member

Each person now has their own Microsoft 365 account and email address, so nobody shares a mailbox and everyone has the Office apps they need. Staff sign in to any business computer with their own Windows Hello PIN.

Access only from the business's computers

We applied Conditional Access policies so Microsoft 365 can only be opened from the company’s own managed computers, not from personal devices.

Teams for chat and shared documents

We moved team communication into Microsoft Teams and set up shared document storage there, so files sit in one place and the USB sticks are no longer needed.

Matching signatures and a password manager

We set up email signatures managed centrally through Microsoft 365, so every signature matches, and rolled out 1Password so the team can store and share passwords securely.

The Result

One setup the whole team can rely on

Kelso Building Trade Centre now runs on a single, managed setup. Every computer is up to date and secured, every staff member has their own account, and the team can find and share files without chasing anyone for a USB stick. With ongoing managed IT support in place, Digitek looks after the setup and any IT issues that come up.
